The Glen Hotel’s history begins in 1863 when Charles Baker purchased a large parcel of land and established what was then known as Baker’s Hotel. This site quickly became a key stop for travelers, particularly those on the Cobb & Co. coaches, serving as a vital link between the burgeoning settlements in the area.

The Scottish Influence: Renaming to “The Glen”

In 1927, the hotel was taken over by the McCamey sisters, who were of Scottish descent. They renamed the establishment “The Glen,” a name that pays homage to their heritage. This change marked a new era for the hotel, intertwining its roots with the rich traditions of Scotland.

The Fitzgibbons Era: Modernisation and Expansion

The most transformative period in The Glen Hotel’s history came in 1960 when the Fitzgibbons family took ownership. Under their stewardship, the hotel underwent significant renovations and expansion, evolving into the multifaceted venue it is today. The Fitzgibbons family ensured that while the hotel modernised, it still retained its historical charm.
